Carlsen resigned from World Championship!?
www.chess.com I'm disappointed to read that. I'm a casual fan of the game and read the occasional article, most about Magnus. From little I have read or seen him on YT vids, I like him. I think he has represented chess well. What are your thoughts?

I think he’s just being honest with himself about how he feels, something which can save a person a lot of pointless bother.

Foreshadowed...
... Some time before the Candidates' Tournament, GM Carlsen let it be known that he was really interested in playing GM Alireza Firouzja - clearly seeing in him a challenging and interesting opponent. He didn't think he would be so motivated against any other opponent. So GM Ian Nepomniachtchi goes and wins the thing; Firouzja has a bad tournament for him, and finishes in the bottom half. Carlsen thrashed Nepo in the previous WC match (or maybe Nepo thrashed himself: he didn't seem to be trying to win at the time). I am disappointed, too, as Nepo played some demon chess during this last Candidates. Were he to produce that kind of combative and competitive spirit in the upcoming match, Magnus might have had his work cut out for him. Never mind. The Nepo-Ding match ought to be sufficiently combative... Alireza Firouzja will get his chance soon, no doubt.

Carlsen has his sights set on 2900 imo

Chess moves on...
Nepo vs Liren will be a good match.
