Coffee and chess are synonymous with one another..stuff and must learn to cut back, but it keeps me going with everything from blitz to late night deep game study or some of my long writeups in or out of a club scene or forum. To me coffee and chess are like a critical necessity.Tea,simply does not do it for me. Perhaps black tea,but even then, the taste is like night and day. Most of my coffee's however, are not store bought, but come from specialty shops or bought online. Then I never buy ground coffee, only whole bean and grind as needed. This keeps the oils in the coffee longer and fresher and its really the oils that give coffee the true flavor.Call me a coffee connoisseur. The best way to make coffee, especially the more expensive stuff is to use a French tea/coffee press as here: tchibo.us Why so?Because when you let the grounds soak a bit, then "press down"on the coffee with the metal screen plunger...it "presses"most of the oils out for a much fuller flavor, compared to those drip coffee makers or K cups. The French coffee press, sometimes called the Tea Press is not expensive and well worth the price.Sure,it takes longer to make a cup using the press, but if you are not in a hurry and demand top quality....go for the press! Two of my coffee "brands"are often counterfeited and sold cheaper than what they should be, so buyers beware. They are: 1. Kopi Luwak 2. Jamaican Blue Mt If you find Kopi cheap online anywhere,it is most likely a cheap imitation, including the Blue Mt.coffee. Many times even Jamaican Blue Mt is confused with just Jamaican coffee. And as to Kopi Luwak, usually only from Indonesia at a high price is the REAL stuff. Its the symbolic difference between Gallo wine at $2.74 a bottle compared to a Château Lafite Rothschild bottle of wine which will run into the hundreds of dollars. I custom blend those two above with Kona from Hawaii, but just a small amount to add acidity. Kopi: I custom blend those two above with Kona from Hawaii, but just a small amount to add acidity. Kopi: www.orientaltrading.com volcanicacoffee.com Jamican Blue Mt: www.goodasgold.com So,if you go into any store and see Kopi or J Blue for 20 dollars or some other cheap price... you are getting garbage, unless it is just a tiny amount to make one or two cups.Otherwise,it may be labeled as either I mentioned but they are cheap "runoff's". Just my magic formula to improve your late night chess game! As you buy either above, you may be asked....will that be cash or charge? As to Folgers,Maxwell House,Eight O'clock Coffee and others...never heard of them!If you can afford my two brands above, then you never want to go back to the regular stuff!😊☕ Same with Japanese Wagyu Ribeye Steak-A5 Grade.Counterfeited often. If its not from Japan, even though they make a version of it in the USA,it is NOT the real thing.I went into a USA bar once and they were selling Wagyu steak sandwiches for 5 dollars.Later,I found out that only a tiny amount was used and then mixed with regular steak meat. Wagyu: www.amazon.com Now,at Wagyu prices like that,do you think you would get a nice big Wagyu cheesesteak sandwich for 5 dollars?Buyers and consumers beware. Just some insight with coffee and steak, combined with your chess play! Everyone has their "own"favorite coffee's.However,my best bet is that many have not even tried my two coffee's above, just like someone not tasting a Wagyu Steak or a Château Lafite Rothschild. So,they will never know. And yes, there is a difference between Kobi steak and Wagyu but both are confused with one another all the time. Good chess to all!And I had to consume two cups of Kopi, just to write this long report out! Guess how much two cups of "authentic"Kopi would cost you in a specialty shop? Get your credit card ready! Tea...I'll drink coffee, but prefer the instant coffee one buys in a supermarket, or local store (or 'dairy' as they are called in this country). NOT Nestle, though. I'd probably boycott that company for the thieves and hired assassins they are, but I simply dislike their product. Always have. Too bitter. There are far better instant coffees around. Nor do I like percolated coffee - to the extent that I have never learned how to make coffee (apart from the instant). One exception to this. If I happen to be in Turkey or Greece, I will drink coffee in their preferred form: Black as the Earl of Hell's riding boots, and sweet as Catherine Bell's smile. |

I do enjoy an occassional cup of tea like you and I have tried some of the best, imported from China through various sources.Oolong is one of my favorites. But unlike you,its still coffee with me and not as much tea.And instant coffee....never!Sorry,but to me instant is like drinking tar water. The tea I have bought was hand tied and or loose leaf where there are no tea bags, you use the spoon or ball with a chain.I am however,no tea expert, only a coffee expert. So,I have not tried many teas.I was on a "tea kick"years ago buying all kinds of exotic teas, but many did not have enough caffeine in them to get me kick started!Yes,I know teas have caffeine, but many are low in caffeine and not for me.Its just a matter of taste as well as geographic location. Seems like the UK,England,Britian, ect was always more tea consumers than in the USA. At least this is what I have heard and read. But that is the way of difference between Europe,Asia,USA and even New Zealand which I think and correct me if i am wrong... was at one time part of the British empire a very long time ago. So,in my opinion, that is where the roots of tea drinking carried over to New Zealand throughout history. In the USA and even in St Barths which is French collectivity(one of my homes)... coffee is consumed much more than tea.I see it all the time in the restaurants and visiting others. TA |

Also...Plus,we threw the Brits out of the USA. So,all of this has in my opinion...psycholgical roots with more coffee than tea in the USA consumed.Perhaps more ice tea in the summer in the USA,but I still believe coffee outweighs tea in the USA considerably. Now,I heard that the cost of coffee is beginning to skyrocket. So,that might change things, who knows. |

New Zealand -Coffee drinking has in the last 40-50 years become a deal more fashionable in this country. Don't know why. My daughter did a barista's course about 12 years back, though I don't recall that she got a job as such. I've never been a connoisseur of teas, much less coffees. The few explorations into other varieties MANY years ago persuaded me simply to stay with what I know and like. There's a lot to be said for remaining in one's comfort zone! |

I use to buy loose leaf from this USA co: www.stashtea.com You might want to explore them and order online. But no matter, when I get buried,a coffee cup filled with coffee will be resting on my chest! Ha ha! TA |
