White: NN Black: Me 1992 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 Bc5 5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bb3 Rf8 7.0-0 h6 8.Nf3 d6 9.d3?! ... I think 9.h3 is the right move, as my reply indicates. 9...Bg4 10.Be3 Nd4 11.Bxd4 Bxd4 12.c3 Bb6 13.Nbd2 Qd7 14.Qc2 Rae8 ... w 15.h3? Bxh3 16.gxh3 Qxh3 17.Nh2 ... Instead, 17.d4 was more interesting, but Black should still win 17...Ng4 18.Nxg4 Qxg4+ 19.Kh1 Qh3+ 20.Kg1 Rf4 21.Qd1 Qg3+ 22.Kh1 Rh4# Cheers, Ion |

Well, my daughter is... I have 'won' my first game in this tournament. At least I collected the point, but in fact my opponent dmaestro, for reasons I do not understand at all resigned in a completely level game. I don't reckon on annotating it; there's nothing to annotate. As a reminder that it is always too early to resign, check out my latest annotation, under the title "The Prairie". It's a remarkable game by a team-mate who hung on through near on 90 moves of adversity, to score a surprise win at the end. I'll send a link with my next post... Cheers, Ion |

ok, thought I'd give a little status report - I'm about halfway through my games, and though I haven't won any yet I've put up a pretty good fight against all who has come against me... right now I'm having my second game against dmaestro, and two other games against claukonen and ionadowman....that's about it for now |

At Each Other's Throats Thanks for that. Now Alex, the game below may come as a lesson on how and how not to construct a mating attack on your opponent. Here is a game which finished this morning between me and the Master Mater.
