![]() You probably were wondering why black leaves the queen en prise? Well let's see what happens when after 1...c5 2-Nd5! black moves the queen away from the a5-d8-diagonal: 1. ... c5 2. Nd5 Qa6 3. Nc7# Oops, that's checkmate. So you see, the black queen must stay on this diagonal, defending against Nc7#. 2...Qa5+ looks good, you might say? Well let's see what happens: 1. ... c5 2. Nd5 Qa5+ 3. b4 cxb4 4. Nb3 Black can either give up the queen or be checkmated by Nc7#. I don't think that was very easy to spot, but it's a nice tactical exercise in my opinion. |
