Because the Q can safely take the B if it goes straight to g5.... By forcing the K to b7, the Q can't take the B

I saw all of this happening...

...just not in this order. I figured 3 would either be Bf4 or Bg5. I ended up failing the tactic because my mouse slipped and I dropped the Bishop on g5 twice in a row.
