I was also a bit surprised at the trade...

I think, 2. Qf6 Nxh3 3. xh3 Rxh5, white loses 5 pawns and black seems to have a strong initiative on the queen side. Pretty sure white has to defend both h3 and g2 to slow Black down, so maybe 3. Qf1 and White becomes passive. But, with his material edge Black can simply play 3. ... Qf7 and trade. He still has two active rooks versus an idle one.

Whereas the trade loses only 4 pawns, and removes one Black's better pieces.
