I remember now. I thought that this was a gambit. But, it's not, as I remember something that I forgot due to how stressful things have been for me, which you saw in the previous. And, that was, combined with the fact that I haven't seen this played in a while. Having said that, this is the Bird's Defense.

Wasn't a gambit, but I only remembered the Birds Defense just a few minutes ago. Had I not, I would've assumed that this was a gambit that was accepted.

It's a gambit. Called the Fred. Why anyone in his right mind would play it is beyond my comprehension. But maybe it might work in a KotH game.

3.Qh5ch might have been worth a look.

I would've played 3...Nf6, but I understand the idea behind as it brings you one step closer to getting your K in the center, which is what this is about.

If 4 Qh5+ g6, 5. fxg6+ and the pin on the pawn to rook is activated

But, 4.Qh5+ is met with 4...g6. I don't know what the best move is, but I think it would've been 4.Nc3 which is what I would've played since it develops. That doesn't help then. Having said that, I agree. Although it's better, I'm not sure if it would've been the best move, either.

4.Qh5ch Kf3 does bring the Black King closer to the centre. I think I would have been inclined to play 4.d4.

I presume White didn't want to play 5.d4, so as to keep a square open for his King.

At expense of leaving the B pinned. But, this isn't serious. In fact, I know what's about to come.

I quite like 6.g4, threatening instant checkmate!

Which is what I'd do, as well, in this position.

Not at all. I would've played 9...e4 with the idea of connecting the pawns, by playing checking this way on the next move. So, yes, this is how I would've responded, a move later. With the idea that after 10...d3+ there's a pawn behind it, but I don't if a move would've made a difference here.

I'm inclined to think 9...e4 would have been good enough, too. But this check has its points. For instance, 10.Ke3 Qd4ch and mate next move.
