Black ought not to have touched his King, but one has to admit, even without a passed pawn, White has a terrific bind on the position - the virtue of a well centralised Q. White could well have exchanged Qs right now - 47.Qc5+ Qxc5 48.bxc5 with an advantageous pawn ending. Black probably had to wait for White's plan to develop. A plausible "waiting move" was 46...h5.

A tragedy for Black. He had at all costs to keep the Queens on. The pure pawn ending is hopeless.

A very even contest, until Black gradually started to go downhill, late in the game.
