He was very ill at the time and i heard that he was actually in the hospital and he sneaked out just to play this chess game. Solosky-Canal Variation is a good alternative for white if he wishes to avoid main line stuff. I used to play this years ago as a surprise weapon on OTB play.

White normally exchanges the bishop, the retreat allows black to expand on the queenside with tempo... Interesting move.
