What's new on GameKnot (minor changes)
1 - Preview function and some visual improvements on private messages.

2 - Draw accepting: one has to confirm the accepting of a draw.
3 - Draw declining: declining a draw before making a move is no longer obligatory (it was for a very short period). Only when your opponent's draw offer has been made after you had already loaded the game board, the move you had submitted would be rejected while showing the draw offer.

New graph on team page
Not sure that I like it takes up a lot of space. I really did not care about the new ladder system anyways.

Graph design
The background for the graph which has your rating and your average opponent's is now blue with dotted grid lines, where once I think it was just a white background.

Un-rated games
How do you specify a game to be un-rated? I looked everywhere and couldn't find that?
TIA.

Come on now, these graphs look pretty slick.

You can only specify to play unrated when sending someone a personal challenge; so take a look at this page:

Slightly negative point is that the graphs are generated not by GameKnot, but by Google.

May not be a negative point if it saves bandwidth.

Plus, the large-scale graphs are still hosted by Gameknot.

Imagine if Da Vinci didn't know when to stop -- he'd probably have ended-up painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa. Unlike Da Vinci, the web-designers at GK don't know when to stop and for the last few months they've been painting mustaches on things that previously worked fine (e.g. breaking the Game Notes window pop-up capability comes to mind).

now what's wrong about google charts?
Google has provided the world with a service that can generate charts based on some url (containing the parameters)

Gameknot made a fine decision by using that rest-full web-service to make google build a tiny part of their website for them.

I'm sure you will see this format a lot more in the future. When an organisation is good at something and wants to share the service with the world, why not take advantage of it.

I'm compelled to rephrase my point since I find that I tend to be misunderstood when I use analogies without an explanation, and because my analogy was a question that I actually didn't know the answer to. So here's my point, rephrased to a more meaningful point...

Taking your Mona Lisa analogy, I think it's worth making the observation that Da Vinci didn't create that painting only once. He actually painted over several parts of the painting repeatedly. X-Ray investigations have shown, for example, that he had envisioned the Mona Lisa in a bonnet and positioned in such a way that she was holding her hair. Ultimately, for whatever reason, Da Vinci decided against that and tweaked the painting to the more familiar pose. He also made certain tweaks according to some researchers, narrowing both her face and her smile. It's hard to say which form would have been better appreciated by the public, and I'm certain there would be differing views for any of them.

Same does go for Gameknot, in a sense. You're right to compare website design to art, and as such it does deserve to be tweaked quite a bit. Features should be considered, added, changed, and yes sometimes even reverted. The point, though, is to try out different things and see how it fits with the overall design. I would hardly compare the new Game Notes design (which I personally like) to a mustache on the Mona Lisa. It's nothing near so blatantly wrong, so I'd compare it more to a slight adjustment of the shape of the nose, or shifting the eyebrows by a centimeter or so.

They are merely changes that are worthy of consideration and critique.

What is wrong with Google?
It gives away part of the "responsibility" of the website... I am having page loading problems at the moment here on GameKnot because of the fact that Google Analytics is being unresponsive.

Re Markb56. I don't see anything wrong about a website improving the quality they offer. A good analogy... I cannot come up with something special... Perhaps look at it as a chess player who improves their rating (=>"quality") by training endgames. GameKnot is improving the quality they offer by polishing parts of the website.

Every site needs a crank or two, and I guess that would be me. Thanks to all for allowing me to vent.

Alice02; well in the new forums the feature has not been removed, as it just has never been here. In the old forums they are still available.

7 - complaint.pl allows to complain about received messages ("report abuse" link next to received private messages). Not sure how it works yet.

"Repeated game postponements" is not a legitimate reason for a complaint in any case, is it?
"Stalling/delaying a game" isn't either, and I do not see how it should be possible to complain about this, based on a message from a specific user. But we'll see.

8 - "Analyze the board" pop-ups contain a link to the mini-tournament/tournament/team match in which that game is/was played (next to the game title).

I wish they wouldn't move a game to the top of your list when there is a draw offer. I like to play game in inverse order of time remaining to move.
kingdawar

Well, you can just sort on time remaining =>
