I thought they'd go for 27.fxg7...
Take the queen for mine.

Nxb3
Take is queen but not with the bishop of course.

Move 27. Change of vote
After re-examining the board, I change my vote to Bxc3.

obvious
kn captures Q...no other move is better... we will loose some pieces but we have our Q for an end game and he dosen't...I'll take that any day.

tennesseehiker...
... are you trying to put the frighteners onto us?
27...Bxb3 28.gxf8=R# don't look healthy for Black (assuming I have my board set up correctly)...

We have entered the line I thought likely a post or two back, which should now go 27...Nxb3 28.gxf8=Q+ Kxf8 29.cxb3 ... whereat we will have to find the best way to stop 30.Bd5. Now, that, I imagine, will lead to a pretty lively discussion.

Cheers,
Ion

Hmm
I don't think there is anything wrong with taking the rook instead. But if everyone wants to take the queen I don't mind.

Don't like taking the rook...
Because: 27...Nxf1 28.Qd3 seems to win material for White. The more I look at the position, the more the 'obvious' 27...Nxb3 (...NxQ) seems to be indicated.

Drat... Made a mistake in the last...
27...Nxf1 28.gxf8=Q+ Kxf8 29.Qd3 is what I meant...

No big deal, but why didn't you play Kxf8 right away since it is the only move

Sorry, you are right!! Just don't try to interfere in this game, so, I didn't really look at it!! Will post this move.

Move 28. Kxf8
Kxf8 is (my humble) obvious choice.

Which one
is it going to be, need a little more.
We have now 29... Qd7 (andywm) and 29... Kg8 (sonata296). Both moves are fine according to ionadowman

Move 30
It's staring us in the face...BxP, easy choice, and we will win another one too in a bit
archduke_piccolo

I agree...
... that we can snaffle the pawn at b3 - good idea. But you might want to think again if you want to follow up with ...Bxa4. I'd much rather keep the bishop on the a2-g8 diagonal for the time being, in order to keep the enemy LSB off it.

Move 30
Qc5 is the best I think; we can take that pawn later !

30. ... Bxb3
The move that looks good to me is 30. ... Bxb3.

Bxb3
I also like Bxb3
kendo-ka
02-Feb-10, 09:31

30... Bxb3
30...Qc5 is a nice idea keeping whites light square bishop off d5. If the light square bishop did reach that square after we played Bxa4 then we would be forced to move our queen to f7 and then we would have to resign.

However if we keep the bishop on the g8 - a2 diagonal we don't need to move the queen there. So nothing is stopping us taking the b - pawn. But the a - pawn will have to wait.

I vote for Bxb3
