August entry
I finally have a game I believe to be worthy of GotM consideration:

game

Featuring not one, but *two* exchange sacrifices!

The annotation is here:

Enjoy.

Whoops
My GK subscription ended so I couldn't post a reply, but I'm back on now

Thank you very much judges for choosing my game as GOTM, very honored especially the field was tough this time

October GOTM
My submission: game

I quite liked my attack here, though it's a short game, I think it's very nice

Ah Ardin - nice pin!
Hi Ardin

That is a nice pin, or very nasty for your opponent. He will drop his queen for a rook which is a lot of material points behind so he does have sufficient grounds for resignation on the grounds of ruinous loss of material.

Well played.

One Judge Versus Three Judges
The vote is in. Most judges agree that one judge is acceptable as opposed to three judges. I will soon solicit a judge for the month of October.

What is a GOTM?
Is it a game in which you come back from an almost lost position and finally manage to win when your opponent refuses to take a draw?
Is it a game with an almost correct (winning, but not the best move in the position) sac in which your opponent loses quickly due to an oversight?
Is it a game in which you sacrifice lots of material but miss some faster wins?
This was the dilemma I faced when choosing my entry for september. I choose the latter: game because of the final combination.
Honorable mentions go to game and game (by the way, with the last game I won the KOH Tournament VII Intermediate Tourney with a score of 12.5/20).

One judge is OK
I agree, one judge is enough... By the way, we still miss the results of the August GotM.

GOTM stands for Game of the Month. I will consult the August judges.

Hehe
I know what GOTM stands for.. I was just wondering for myself what would be a good candidate to enter for this contest.

Interested
I'm interested, but only if I have the time. I'll post it if I have. Right now I'm busy with study, but there'll be times when I'm not.

August results
I have trawled back and forth through the August entries repeatedly and seemingly found more each time. Whether I am qualified to examine some of these higher rated games or not is probably debatable, but I reckon my understanding sound.

3rd place with a score of 6.75 goes to...
l-d-j

2nd place with a score of 7.13 goes to...
ionadowman

And the winner, with a score of 7.50 is....
hityerclock
This exciting game had everything! Positional mastery, tactical trickery, there were loaded weapons everywhere, not to mention two very clever exchange sacrifices. I think hityerclock's opponent could almost have entered the same game in GOTM - he did a sterling job staying on the board for as long as he did!

Congratulations hityerclock, thanks for sharing such a great game. Thanks also to the other entrants for games that were also very good in their own right.

Game of the month October
Hi everyone, sorry I've taken so long to judge October. I've just taken a look at the games again today. I have to say I'm surprised there is only two entries. I'm not sure I want to judge just two games for October. Perhaps if its ok some late entries for this month can be included. However if everyone decides that only the two games that where entered qualify I'll judge them as soon as I receive a reply.

Interesting... I submitted mine on October 13th (I know, a little too late according to the official rules) but I seem to be the only one for September..

December Game
Here is a game that I just finished that I feel is a very good endgame study. For most of the middlegame I felt that my opponent could hold a draw.

Miodrags
Why did you copy my post & then insert your game?
archduke_piccolo
12-Dec-11, 12:38

From Serbia and Montenegro...
.. miodrags might not be confident in his English. Dude: arrogant we Anglophones might be in expecting everyone to speak and understand our language, but we are pretty tolerant of its being mangled, and make the effort to understand what is being said or written. In any case, making the attempt is the way to learn and improve...

Having said that, I don't see why he had to apprehend for most of the middlegame his opponent might hold. miodrags had a huge - winning - advantage almost throughout.
Cheers,
Ion
